Broke an axle on a trail in Moab last month
I was coming down Poison Spider Mesa and hit a drop a little too hard. Heard a loud snap and lost drive to the front. Had to limp back to town in front wheel drive only. Luckily a guy in a Jeep CJ7 stopped and helped me swap in a spare shaft right there on the trail.

Did you have to pull the diff cover off on the trail to get the clip out? Those little things are a pain even in a driveway, let alone while you're covered in Moab dust.

Why would you need to pull the diff cover at all though, @benclark? If you're talking about the c-clip on a semi-floating axle, you can usually pop those out with a magnet or a small screwdriver without even draining the fluid. In Moab dust, just a quick wipe on the housing and you're good to go without making a huge mess.

Start by admitting I've definitely been @benclark before, covered in Moab dust and cussing at a c-clip that just would not budge with a magnet. Tried the screwdriver trick once and ended up launching the clip somewhere into the sagebrush, never to be seen again. Now I just pull the cover anyway because my luck with those little magnets is basically zero.
