I still think cheap recovery straps are a bad idea after my buddy's snapped on us
Everyone always says to just grab the $30 straps from the auto parts store, but I watched one break on a simple pull near Moab last fall. My buddy spent $45 on a no-name brand and it shredded at the loop, sending metal hooks flying past my truck. I dropped $120 on a proper Yankum rope after that and have yanked stuck rigs out of mud pits without a single fray. Has anyone else had a cheap strap fail on them or am I just paranoid?

I read a review from a guy who did load tests on cheap straps and they failed at half their rated capacity most of the time. That Yankum is way overbuilt with that kinetic stretch, which really saves the stress on everything. A few extra dollars now beats a busted bumper or a trip to the hospital later.

Yeah that load test stuff got my attention. I used to be all "a strap's a strap" and grab whatever was cheapest at the parts store. But after seeing one blow apart on a buddy's truck, I started looking into it. Now I see the difference is real - those cheaper ones just don't have the same build quality or stretch to handle the shock without snapping.
