Just realized my winch install took 6 hours because of one hidden bolt
Spent all Saturday under my truck trying to fit a new Warn winch on the bumper, and it was that little bolt behind the frame rail nobody talks about that ate up 3 of those hours. Has anyone else fought with a bolt that seemed like it was put there just to mess with you?

Three hours for one hidden bolt"? That is insane. I would have lost my mind after the first hour and probably just taken an angle grinder to the whole damn thing. Did you have to pull half the bumper off just to get a wrench on it? I swear some engineers sit around and think "how can we make this a nightmare to service" and then high five each other. You have my sympathy because I've been there, stuck under a truck, cursing a fastener that was clearly designed by someone who never had to work on their own vehicle.

Man that bolt trick where you flip it around and thread it from the other side saved my sanity on a Subaru once... fought a hidden 12mm behind the alternator for almost two hours before I realized it could go in backwards and gave me room to actually turn a ratchet. Also started keeping a set of wobble extensions and a magnetic pickup tool in my hand before I even start anything now, just grab them first thing. Another thing that helped was taping the socket to the extension with painter's tape so it didn't keep falling off when I couldn't see what I was doing. Those little tricks don't make it fun, but they turn a three hour fight into maybe a forty five minute argument.
