That $350 winch mount I bolted on wrong in my garage

Picked up a universal winch plate from the local 4x4 shop in Denver and figured it was a straight bolt-on. Spent a whole Saturday wrestling it onto my F-150, only to find the fairlead sits too low and my line rubs the bumper. Lost $350 on the plate and another $120 in hardware I had to swap out trying to fix the angle. Turns out the truck year matters way more than the ad claimed, and I should've measured twice. Anyone else run into a universal part that needed way more fab work than the box promised?
