That guy who swore by his solid front axle at the Moab meetup

Ran into this older fellow at the big 4x4 gathering in Moab last spring, he had a beat-up Toyota pickup on 37s. He spent a good 20 minutes explaining why IFS is trash for rock crawling, even after I showed him my truck's flex numbers and showed him actual obstacle footage. He just kept saying "solid axle or stay home" and then walked off when I asked about his steering box setup. It got me thinking, is he right for extreme trails or is it just nostalgia for the old ways? Has anyone else had a hardcore purist change their mind after seeing modern IFS work in person?
