That moment I realized everyone hooks their winch line wrong.
I was at Moab last month watching a guy try to recover a stuck Jeep, and he looped the winch cable around the tree instead of using a tree strap. He nearly snapped the cable and took out his own hood. Why do so many folks skip the basic recovery gear and risk their rigs?

Man, that's rough to watch. I've seen that exact thing happen too and it makes you cringe every time because you know the tree strap is like 15 bucks at any parts store. People just don't realize how much damage a steel cable under tension can do when it snaps or rubs against bark the wrong way. Glad you mentioned it because a lot of folks think they're saving time but they're really just asking for a busted windshield or worse.
