Took my truck on a beach run at Assateague and found out I'd been airing down to the wrong number for 3 years
I've been running my tires at 22 psi in sand since I got the truck back in 2021, and honestly I thought I had it dialed. Last month I went out to Assateague State Park with a buddy who runs a tire shop in Salisbury, and he watched me drop to 22 before we hit the sand and just kind of laughed. He said get down to 15, maybe 14, and I told him no way, that's too low, I'll pop a bead. First little dune section I got bogged down about 200 yards in while he just floated right past me in basically the same truck. We aired me down to 15 right there on the sand and it was like a different vehicle. The weird part is I'd read 20 psi in a forum post years back and just never questioned it, never tested anything else. All those trips where I blamed my tires or my gearing were really just me being stubborn about one number I picked up off the internet. So what psi are you running in soft sand, and did you actually test different numbers or just copy somebody else like I did?
