Tried to cross a creek near Moab last Saturday and got high-centered on a rock I swore I saw
Had to wait 90 minutes for a guy in a lifted Tacoma to pull me out, and now im wondering if anyone else has tips for reading water depth better when its murky like that?

Did you try poking ahead with a long stick or a shovel handle before driving in? I did that once near Moab and still ended up with a buddy's Jeep filling up with muddy water because the bottom was soft muck not rock. The worst part was watching my dog lose his mind barking at the bubbles from his back seat.

...and then what did you do about the dog? Did you get him out before the water got too deep or was he swimming in the back seat by the time you opened a door? I have a golden retriever who acts tough until something spooks him, and I can just picture him losing his mind barking at those bubbles like they're a personal threat. That kind of panic makes a bad situation worse because now you're trying to save a vehicle and calm a scared animal at the same time. Did your buddy's Jeep survive the mud bath or was it a total loss after that?
