Vent: Overheard a kid at the trailhead say my rig was "grandpa's truck"

I was airing down at the Pine Creek trailhead last Saturday and this teenager walks past with his buddies and goes "nice grandpa's truck". I just laughed because my 1999 4Runner has taken me through Moab, the Rubicon, and back without a hiccup. His brand new Wrangler was parked on the side with a check engine light already on lol. Has anyone else gotten weird comments from the younger generation about their older 4x4s?

Laughed out loud reading this because I'm honestly waiting for the day some kid calls my 2001 Tacoma a museum piece. My buddy's 18 year old nephew saw me loading up camping gear and asked if it came with a cassette player. I told him yeah, and it also comes with the ability to actually get to the campsite without a tow truck. The funny thing is these younger guys don't realize that older rigs are just built different, you know? I've had my Tacoma for 15 years and it's never left me stranded once, while I've seen brand new Jeeps and Broncos sitting at the shop for months waiting on parts. Honestly I take it as a compliment these days. If my truck is grandpa's truck then grandpa knows how to build em right.

And yeah, that's the thing that gets me. These kids see a clean, well maintained older rig and think it's just old, not seasoned. Your Taco has 15 years of proof behind it. My 4Runner has dings and dirt that tell a story. I've pulled brand new trucks out of ditches more times than I can count. Their loss, honestly. I bet those kids would cry if they saw the repair bill on a modern rig compared to just maintaining our old ones.
