Walked past a guy winching a Jeep out of a ditch last Sunday, didn't offer to help
He was struggling for maybe 20 minutes, straps all twisted, no recovery boards in sight. I just stood there watching from the trail like some kind of rubbernecker. Why don't we carry a basic recovery kit if we're gonna push our rigs that hard?

Man that's a rough one but I've been there too. Once watched a buddy try to winch himself out of a mud pit for a solid 45 minutes using a frayed strap and a single shackle because he forgot the rest of his kit at home. Had to walk back to my truck and grab my own gear just to get him moving again. It's funny how we'll drop cash on lift kits and tires but skimp on the stuff that actually gets us unstuck. Recovery boards and a proper winch setup feel like overkill until you're the guy standing there with your thumb up your butt. You end up learning the hard way or watching someone else do it right?

UGH, what really gets me is how people treat recovery gear like it's some kind of OPTIONAL luxury. You'll see guys drop five grand on a lift and tires but balk at spending a hundred bucks on a proper snatch strap and a couple of soft shackles. I bet that guy's rig had every cosmetic upgrade possible but his recovery kit was just that single frayed strap from the hardware store. It's almost like some folks WANT to be the story everyone tells later, you know? They'd rather look cool stuck for an hour than practical for five minutes.
