Wrote off locking diffs for 8 years, then a guy in Moab changed my mind in one afternoon
I always figured lockers were for rock buggies and guys with more money than sense. Then a buddy let me ride along on Fins and Things outside Moab and I watched his basically stock Tacoma crawl a ledge my open-diff rig spun on for 10 minutes. Same tires, same line, the only real difference was he could lock the rear and just idle up while I was bouncing and digging ruts. He said he paid around $1,200 installed and I honestly thought that was nuts until I saw it work. Now I'm pricing one out for my truck and trying to figure out if I go selectable or just deal with an auto locker in the rear. Anyone running a lunchbox locker on a daily driver in winter, how bad is it actually on ice?
