Am I the only one who had a Google Ads campaign tank because of a single misplaced negative keyword?

Last Tuesday, I added 'free' as a broad match negative to a campaign for a $5,000 client, and it accidentally blocked all searches containing the word 'freight', which was our main service term, dropping conversions to zero for two days before I caught it.

Oh man, that's the worst kind of mistake... the one that seems so small but just wrecks everything. Been there with a broad match negative going way too broad. Those two days of zero conversions must have been pure panic. Really glad you caught it, though. It's a brutal lesson in how careful you have to be with those lists.

Panic seems like a strong reaction for a two day blip. @the_susan has the right idea keeping things simple with phrase match. It's just ad words, not a burst pipe.

My agency uses phrase match for negatives now.
