I thought the 'Super Bowl ad' hype was just for big brands until our local car dealer ran one
Our small agency in Tampa convinced a local Ford dealer to buy a 30 second spot in the big game this year, and I was sure it would be a waste of their $7 million. But the phone started ringing during the fourth quarter and they sold 47 cars in the next 48 hours, which is insane for them. It completely flipped my view on who that kind of reach is for. Has anyone else seen a smaller client pull off a huge splash like that?

That's a wild story, but honestly it sounds like a huge gamble that just happened to work out. I mean, seven million is an insane amount for a local dealer to spend on one ad. They could have done so much more with that money over a full year. Maybe it's just me, but that kind of splash feels like a one-time thing that you can't really build on. It seems more like luck than a smart plan.

Nah, it was a smart move. That kind of buzz lasts way longer than a year of normal ads. They bought a story everyone talks about.

Yeah I saw a piece about that. It mentioned how the story itself got picked up by way more news outlets than just the game ad spot. Like, local news talked about it, then some bigger blogs, and it became this thing people shared. That extra free press probably added more eyes than the ad buy itself. Kinda wild how that works sometimes.
