Changed my mind about weighing beans after a barista in Seattle showed me her scale
I used to scoop beans straight from the bag into my grinder and eyeball the water, no scale, no timer, just vibes. Last week a barista at a shop in Seattle pulled out a $20 kitchen scale and weighed my beans right in front of me, and the cup she made tasted way brighter than what I brew at home. So I tried it the next morning at 18 grams of beans to 300 grams of water and the difference was not subtle, the sour edge I always got just vanished. Turns out my scoop was running about 4 grams heavy some days and light on others, which explains why my brew tasted different every single time. Does anyone here weigh every cup or do you just go by feel and accept the weird days?
