Chemex vs. French press, I switched after 3 weeks of side-by-side tests

I ran a little experiment last month, 6 days total, making the same beans both ways. The Chemex gave me a cleaner cup, but it took 8 minutes with the kettle and filter fuss. The French press was done in 4 minutes, but I kept getting sludge in the bottom of my mug. I picked the press because I value my morning sleep, and honestly the sediment stopped bothering me after day 2. Has anyone else made the jump and then gone back when guests complained about the grounds?

My roommate once called my French press sludge "muddy disappointment" and I almost cried into my mug. Kept using it anyway because the extra 4 minutes of sleep mattered more than my dignity. Then I tried pre-grounding finer and using a coarser filter screen, which fixed like 80% of the grit without losing the speed. Honestly, the only person who ever complained was that same roommate, so I just started hiding the press when they visited. Sleep wins every time, even if my teeth feel like I chewed a beach.
