Had to choose between a French press and an Aeropress for camping last weekend

Tbh I have been team French press for years but for a 3 day trip up near Flagstaff I grabbed my buddy's Aeropress instead. Packing it was way easier since it barely takes up space and cleanup was just popping out the puck. Coffee came out super clean and smooth even with the cheaper pre-ground stuff I brought. Has anyone else switched to a specific brew method just for travel?

The cold morning air really changes things with coffee too. French press lets it get cold fast but the Aeropress holds heat better when you're outside in the wind. Makes a difference when you're trying to warm up.

I actually see it the other way with "holds heat better" - the Aeropress might keep the water hot during brewing (since it's plastic and sealed), but once you've pressed it into a thin-walled mug, that coffee cools off faster than a thick ceramic French press carafe would. The French press glass might lose heat during the steep, but the carafe itself holds temperature way better once it's brewed. I'll take the slower cooldown over a slightly hotter brew temp if I'm sitting outside.
