Just realized cold brew isn't overhyped after trying the version at a tiny shop in Portland
I used to think cold brew was just a fancy word for iced coffee that let cafes charge $2 more, so I never ordered it. Then I walked into a small spot on Alberta Street in Portland two weeks ago while waiting for my car to get new brake pads, and the barista talked me into a cup. She said they steep theirs for 18 hours, and you could actually taste it, smooth and a little sweet with zero bitterness. I sat by the window and finished the whole thing in maybe 10 minutes, which never happens with regular iced coffee for me. What got me was how I didn't need to add cream or sugar, which is usually the only way I can drink it. I went back the next morning and got a second one just to make sure it wasn't a fluke. Turns out the longer steep pulls out flavor without the acid bite, or at least that's how she explained it. Now I've got a pitcher going in my fridge, and I'm curious if anyone here has a steep time they swear by?
