My pour-over kettle gave out mid-brew this morning, what do you use?
I was halfway through my usual V60 routine around 7:30 AM when the kettle just clicked off and refused to heat back up. Water was at 185 degrees, not even close to where I needed it. I ended up microwaving the rest in a measuring cup, which felt wrong on every level. The coffee came out bitter and flat. That kettle was maybe 3 years old, nothing fancy, but it did the job daily. Now I'm back to square one. Do you guys prefer a gooseneck with temp control or is the stovetop method good enough? I'm on a budget after dropping $60 on beans last week, so I need real opinions before I commit.

Hate when that happens, man. My old electric gooseneck died the exact same way, clicked off right in the middle of a bloom and I stood there staring at it like an idiot for a minute. I tried the microwave trick once too and it just made everything taste sad and flat, so I feel your pain. Stovetop is honestly fine if you already have a thermometer and don't mind waiting, but the temp control on the electric ones really does make a difference for pour overs, especially if you're picky about your water temp like I am. That said, if you're on a budget after dropping all that money on beans, a decent stovetop gooseneck and a cheap instant read thermometer will get you 90 percent of the way there. Just make sure you get one with a good spout, the thin ones pour way smoother and mess way less. I went back to electric after a few months, but only because I got a deal, and honestly the stovetop made me a better brewer since I had to pay attention more.
