PSA: Dont leave your French press on a low burner thinking itll keep warm
I was at my kitchen table last Saturday morning reading a moving estimate and forgot my French press was sitting on the gas stove on the lowest setting. About 20 minutes later I smelled something burning and the glass had cracked right down the middle. Coffee grounds and hot water went everywhere over my burner and counter. I spent the next 45 minutes scrubbing burnt coffee sludge off the grates. Has anyone else had a French press break like that from the heat?

terryk10 yeah that burnt sludge cleanup is the worst part. I did the same thing a few months ago with my old Bodum. What worked for me was switching to using one of those cheap electric kettle warmers instead. I just pour my coffee into a thermal carafe right away now and put the press straight in the sink. Also for the sludge cleanup I found that scrubbing with a paste of baking soda and dish soap got the burnt stuff off way faster than anything else. Saves you from scraping at it for 45 minutes like you did.

Used to think a little warmth wouldn't hurt nothing, but now I see it's just asking for trouble. That burnt coffee sludge cleanup sounds like a real pain too.
