Tried to dial in a new bean from a local roaster near me
Picked up a bag from Red Rooster up in Floyd, Virginia last week. Thought it would take maybe 3 pulls to get the grind right on my machine. Ended up wasting almost an hour and a full 40 grams of coffee before it tasted half decent. Has anyone else had a bean that just refused to cooperate no matter what you did?

Did you try adjusting the water temperature at all? I read a blog post from a coffee science nerd who said some lighter roasts need a hotter brew to extract properly, and that fixed a stubborn bean for me. @ward.jamie I had the same fight with Red Rooster beans last month, it was like they had a mind of their own. I ended up grinding way finer than I normally do and letting it preinfuse for an extra 10 seconds, that seemed to help. Still not perfect but at least drinkable without puckering. Took me three separate mornings to dial it in, just kept adjusting one thing at a time. Might try splitting the dose and doing a turbo shot next time, heard that works for tricky beans too.

That Red Rooster bean is legit stubborn. Took me a solid week of mornings to get anything drinkable out of it. Ended up going way finer than I thought I'd need and bumping my water temp up a bit. Still wasn't perfect but at least I didn't feel like I wasted the bag. It's one of those roasts where every batch seems to act different too.
