Why does nobody talk about weighing beans vs scooping them?
A barista at the shop on 5th Street told me last Tuesday that she refuses to scoop coffee and always weighs it to the gram, and she acted like scooping was a crime. But my grandma scooped her whole life with the same old tin cup and her coffee was great every single morning. I get that a scale gets you the same cup every time, but a scoop is faster and cheaper and most of us are just trying to get out the door at 6am. So which side are you on, do you weigh your beans or just scoop and go?
Does your mom also eat the same rice every single time though? Because that's the real trick. Plain white rice is way more forgiving than brown or jasmine, which need different amounts of water. A measuring cup works fine once you know your rice and your pot. Change either one and the same scoop turns into mush or crunchy bits.
