Did the lead hand actually explain what he meant by sloppy, or did he just say it and walk off? Because that matters a lot here. Twelve years of habit usually means your method works for you, even if it does not look like the book version. A lot of guys pull steady and smooth and get good numbers, and a guy watching for two minutes calls it sloppy because it is not his way. If he had a real point, like you are jerking at the end or not holding steady after the click, then sure, worth fixing. But one comment from one person should not make you toss out twelve years unless he can tell you what was actually wrong.
