Heard a lead say torque wrenches are for rookies, need backup on this
I was in the hangar at KPDX yesterday and overheard this old-timer telling a new hire to skip the torque wrench on landing gear bolts because he's been doing it 'by feel' for 30 years. I get that experience counts, but I've seen stripped threads and cracked flanges from that exact mindset. Is that a dying skill thing or just plain dangerous? Anyone else got stories of feel vs spec going sideways, or am I overthinking it?
