Left the pitot cover on during a ramp check in Wichita and the FAA guy just pointed at it
This was maybe 2019, I was working line at a shop in Wichita doing a quick turn on a King Air and I left the pitot cover on after washing the nose. The FAA inspector walked up during his random ramp check, didn't say a word, just pointed at the cover and waited. My stomach dropped because I knew the air data computer would have been toast if we'd launched like that. I pulled it, logged it, and told my lead right away instead of trying to hide it. He chewed me out for about 10 minutes but then walked me through a better habit, putting the cover on the glare shield the second I pull it. Now I do a walk around with my hand touching every probe and static port before I sign anything off. How do you all handle the post wash walk around so stuff like this doesn't slip by?
Wait so was it just the pitot cover or did you have the static ports taped too? Cause if it was only the pitot that King Air would've still had a bad day but at least the static side was fine lol. And how do you handle it when someone else on the crew does the walk around and not you?
