Logged my 500th annual inspection on the same Cessna 172 yesterday
I was signing off paperwork yesterday afternoon and noticed the Hobbs on this old 172, N-numbers I won't post, sitting at just over 11,000 hours. That number means it has been through roughly 500 annuals, and I have personally done 6 of the last 8 on it because the owner flies it maybe 40 hours a year. Seeing that logbook stack next to a plane I have known longer than some of my tools hit different. The last page had squawks from 1997 in shaky handwriting from a mechanic who has to be retired by now. It got me thinking about how we are just one link in a long chain on these airframes. How many annals have you all put on one single tail?
I did 14 annuals on a 182 out of a little grass strip in south Georgia, and the owner's son took over the plane after he passed. Pulling that first logbook page and seeing dad's signature from 1988, then signing right under it, that one got me. You are right about being one link in the chain. That 1997 handwriting is probably somebody who trained on radials and never thought twice about it.
