Old timer told me to quit using so much touch-up paint on rivets
He said if I spent more time setting them right the first time I wouldn't need to cover up my mistakes, so I changed my whole approach and now I barely touch a brush - has anyone else had an old hand call you out on something basic like that?

Respectfully, isn't that advice assuming every rivet hole is perfect from the get-go?

Start by assuming holes will stretch a bit, you'll be fine.

Wait, you're telling me people are actually running into brand new parts with egg-shaped holes straight from the factory? That's wild, I've never had that happen on any of my builds but I guess quality control is all over the place these days. Just another reason to double check everything before you start hammering, I suppose.
