PSA: Don't cheap out on a torque wrench for prop bolts

I bought a budget one for a quick job and it was out of calibration by 15 foot-pounds. Cost me a $300 re-torque inspection and a ton of rework. Anyone have a go-to brand they trust for precision work?

Fifteen foot pounds off on a budget torque wrench is terrifying. That's not a small margin, it's a complete failure. How can you even trust any reading after finding that out? I'd be checking every bolt that thing ever touched. It really shows that the cheap tool can end up costing way more in the long run.

Saw a video where a guy tested a bunch of those wrenches and the results were scary bad. Some of the cheap ones weren't even close to being right straight out of the box. It's like you're just guessing at that point, which is nuts for something that needs to be exact. Definitely makes the case for getting yours checked or just buying a known good brand.

That's a huge difference, enough to cause real damage. Did the wrench feel off when you used it, or did it seem fine until you got it checked? Makes you wonder if there were any warning signs before the inspection.
