Shoutout to the old-timer who caught me skipping a torque check on a Cessna 172 control cable

I was working a flight control cable replacement last Tuesday at KMDH, getting close to quitting time. Had the cable run, safety wired it, and was about to button up the inspection panel. This 60-something mechanic, Gary, who barely talks to anyone just walked over and said "You check the torque on that turnbuckle yet?" I hadn't. I figured it was fine because I had it snug by hand. He just stood there until I got the wrench. Took maybe 2 minutes. But it made me think about how many times I've skipped little steps like that when I'm in a hurry. Has anyone else had a senior mechanic call them out on something small that ended up being a dumb mistake?

Blew my mind reading that, torque specs exist for a reason and Gary probably saved your career right there.
