That $140 borescope I bought for one engine job, now collecting dust
Bought a fancy articulating borescope for a borescope inspection on a PT6 last winter, used it twice and the rental place down the road would've charged me $40 a day. Has anyone else got a tool that seemed smart at the time but you never touch it again?

Wait till you need it again though... that's how this stuff works. Bought a crank pulley holder for a one-off Volvo timing belt job back in 2019, sat for five years, then suddenly needed it on a buddy's car last month. The real kicker is the PT6 borescope inspection itself... those things need proper video recording with the probe position marked, and rental units come with fingerprints all over the lens and some stranger's grime in the articulation. That clean, dedicated scope you own is worth the dust if a second inspection rolls around, especially if it's a different engine model where the rental shop's standard probe length won't reach.
