Thought I was a pro at torque specs, then a 767 taught me otherwise
Spent 8 years torquing landing gear bolts to the book value every time. Last month in Dallas, a senior inspector pulled me aside after I did a nose strut. He showed me how the manual calls for a 10 percent reduction when the bolt has 3 threads exposed past the nut. Dumbest thing is the spec was right there in section 32-41, I just never flipped past the torque chart. Anyone else have a moment where the factory manual overruled what your old mentor drilled into you?
