Warning: My coworker's torque wrench calibration expired 6 months ago

Last Tuesday a guy on my crew used a wrench that was 3 months past due on its calibration and it caused a bolt to snap on a 737 engine mount, has anyone else nearly had a close call like this from expired tools?

Watched a guy use one that was 4 years expired and his torque values were still spot on, honestly.

Yeah I gotta push back a little on the "caused a bolt to snap" part. In my experience a torque wrench being off by a few percent isn't going to snap a bolt unless it was already way too tight or the bolt was bad to begin with. Your mileage may vary but I've seen expired wrenches still be within spec plenty of times.

Expired wrenches aren't great but one bad bolt doesn't prove it snapped from the calibration.
