Found a trick for faster episode binging at the anime club meetup
Last Friday at the college anime club, someone pulled out a laptop with VLC player. They set playback speed to 1.5x for the recaps. Saved like 10 minutes per episode. I tried it on my phone too using the YouTube app speed setting. Has anyone else found a good way to skip filler without missing plot points?

Actually the whole speeding up thing works backwards on some shows. Like in slow burn series the recap is where they cram all the context so skipping it just leaves you confused for the first half of the episode. I started keeping the recap at normal speed but skimming through the first few minutes of the actual episode instead since that's usually just setup shots and reaction faces anyway. Saves about the same time but I don't miss the stuff that actually matters for understanding the plot.

Gotta say I've been doing something kinda different for this. Instead of skipping or speeding up recaps, I actually watch them but mute the audio and read the subs on 0.5x speed. Sounds weird but hear me out. When you slow down the text you catch little foreshadowing details or background stuff the studio hid in the recap animations. Like in One Piece they sometimes show a split second of something from 200 episodes later in the recap. Plus it makes the actual new episode hit harder since you're not rushing through anything. Just my two cents on a different way to handle the filler stuff nobody talks about.

VLC at 1.5x is the move for recaps, I've been doing that for years. On crunchyroll I just skip the whole first 90 seconds of every episode since that's usually just the recap anyway. Lets me breeze through weekly episodes without losing track of the actual story.
