Found a whole forum thread from 2007 arguing about the ending of a show I just finished
I was looking up info on 'Code Geass' last Tuesday and found this old, dusty forum page. People were so mad about the final episode, typing in all caps and everything. One user named 'LelouchFan22' wrote, 'The director clearly meant for him to die, you're all wrong.' It was like watching a time capsule of anime arguments. Has anyone else stumbled on a super old debate like that?

I remember digging through a 2005 GameFAQs board about the ending of Metal Gear Solid 2. People were losing their minds over Raiden, pages of text arguing if Kojima was a genius or just messing with fans. The wild part is reading those old predictions now, knowing how the series actually turned out. It's funny how heated people got over stuff that feels settled today. That old internet anger has a weird charm to it.

People were losing their minds over Raiden" is kind of the whole point though. I actually think the opposite of what you're saying - those old arguments were right and the settled view is wrong. Everyone looks back at MGS2 now like "oh Raiden was ahead of his time" or "Kojima was a genius for making you play as a rookie." But honestly, the game just gave you a whiny character who couldn't stop talking about his girlfriend while Snake was doing all the cool stuff offscreen. The ending was confusing and pretentious, not deep. People were right to be mad back then because they wanted a Metal Gear game and got a weird art project instead. If anything, the modern take of "well it was actually brilliant" feels like revisionist history to me.

Remember when everyone thought Raiden was the worst? Reading those old posts made me see he was the whole point, a regular guy stuck in Snake's story. It changed my mind about why that ending actually works so well.
