I finally dropped $80 on a limited edition Blu-ray box set I'll never finish
Look I get caught up in the hype around these big anime releases every time. There was this massive collector's edition for a 90s mecha series that I saw on RightStuf back in April. It was supposed to have all these extras like an art book and a metal case. I bought it immediately for 80 bucks because I was scared it would sell out. But here's the thing that gets me. I have never even opened the plastic wrap. I don't even own a Blu-ray player anymore because my PS4 broke last year. The show is 50 episodes long and I have maybe watched 5 episodes total on streaming. You are basically paying for a fancy paperweight and digital files you could find anywhere. Has anyone else fallen for that limited run FOMO and just ended up storing a box in their closet for months?

Haha yeah the "fancy paperweight" part is spot on. My buddy Mike spent like 60 bucks on a steelbook of some sci-fi movie from the 80s, the one with all the neon and the soundtrack everyone knows. He doesn't have a disc player either. The thing just sits on his shelf next to a Funko Pop of a character he also didn't know until after he bought it. He finally opened it a year later just to check the art book and the plastic was all scratched from moving it around his apartment three times.

Yo @the_faith, that movie's called Blade Runner, not just some "sci-fi movie from the 80s with neon." Also, Funko Pops are basically just dust collectors, so your buddy's shelf is a shrine to bad decisions.

Respectfully gotta disagree here. I mean, if Mike enjoys looking at the steelbook on his shelf and it reminds him of a cool movie he likes, then it's not really a waste, it's just a different kind of collecting. Maybe it's just me but having a physical object you find pleasing to look at is its own reward, even if you never watch the disc.
