I spent $80 on a special edition Blu-ray set for a show I loved as a teen, and it was a total waste.

The video quality was no better than the old DVDs I already owned, and the 'exclusive' booklet was just a few pages of recycled art, so has anyone else been burned by a fancy anime release that didn't deliver?

Ugh, ALWAYS check reviews first.

Seriously, some places PAY for good reviews now. You have to dig for the real complaints buried in the middle. It's a whole new level of research.

That Aniplex release of Madoka Magica was totally worth the premium for me. The new dub cast is fantastic and the packaging feels really solid. Sometimes you're paying for the whole experience, not just a spec sheet.
