TIL that anime forum chats are all about memes now

I've been hanging out in anime discussion spaces online for a while. Recently, I scrolled through a thread on a new season show. Almost every post was a meme or a screenshot with a funny caption. It hit me that people aren't really discussing the anime anymore. They're just sharing reactions. I remember when these forums had deep debates about themes and symbolism. Now, it feels shallow. Maybe it's because everyone watches shows as they drop and wants to be part of the moment. But I worry we're losing the art of conversation.

But aren't memes just a fun new way to share our love for the shows?

It's funny how memes can change how you remember a scene. There was this one meme from last season that my whole group chat couldn't stop sending. We ended up quoting it more than the actual dialogue. Now whenever I watch the show, I just picture the meme version. Kind of ruins the drama but it's a good laugh.

Totally get what you mean about it being a fun new way to share the love, lol. But sometimes the meme version takes over my brain completely. There's this one dramatic death scene that I can't even take seriously anymore because the caption from that one meme just plays on a loop in my head. It's like my brain replaced the original emotional music with the circus theme song. I love the memes, but they've absolutely broken how I watch certain shows, and I'm not sure my attention span will ever recover.
