Tried watching the first episode of 5 different shows in one night and only finished one
Last Tuesday I sat down with a list of recommendations from Reddit and bounced off all but one of them by the 10 minute mark. The one that stuck had a character who just sat in silence eating rice for a whole scene, and somehow that was more compelling than the explosion in episode one of the other show. Anyone else find their taste shifting toward slower, quieter anime as they get older?

Wait, there's actually a study about this? I mean I knew I wasn't alone but I didn't think someone sat down and measured it scientifically. That honestly makes me feel a lot better about skipping half the action shows people rave about these days. After a long day of chaos, watching someone just exist for a few minutes feels like a reset button for my brain. Do you remember what the article was called, I'd love to pass it to my husband who keeps trying to get me into those overstuffed fantasy series?

I read an article last month about how adults who watch anime tend to prefer shows with slower pacing and less action over time. It mentioned a study that said our brains just get tired of constant stimulation as we age, which totally tracks with that rice eating scene being more interesting than explosions. That silent moment probably felt more real and human than any big CGI fight, and that's what sticks with you after a long day of work.
