Update: I hit 50 episodes of One Piece and finally get why people say the pacing is a dealbreaker
I started One Piece back in March as a joke because a guy at the comic shop in Boise bet me I would not make it past episode 20. Well, I hit episode 50 last night and something clicked for me. I used to think the slow pacing complaints were just impatience talking, but sitting through the Baratie arc made me realize I had been watching on 1.5 speed for a week without even noticing. The weird part is I stopped fast forwarding during the Arlong Park stuff because the fights actually felt like they mattered, and I ended up rewatching three episodes just to catch small details in the background. I counted it up and my watch time went from 22 minutes an episode down to about 14, which told me I was skipping more than I thought. My whole view shifted when I realized the show wants you to sit in the quiet moments, not just sprint to the next fight. So now I am wondering, does the pacing get better after the time skip or should I just accept it and stop checking the episode number every ten minutes?
