Vent: My buddy in his 40s convinced me to give subbed anime a real shot
For like 10 years I was strictly a dubbed anime guy. I thought reading subtitles would ruin the action and I'd miss stuff. Then my friend Dave, who's been watching since the 90s, sat me down for a episode of Attack on Titan in Japanese. He said 'you're missing the emotion in the voices, the Japanese VAs put way more feeling into it.' I rolled my eyes but gave it 3 episodes. Now I can't go back. The screaming in subbed just hits different. Has anyone else had a buddy change your mind on something anime related?

Hold up, Dave is in his 40s and still that passionate about anime? That's honestly kind of incredible. Most people I know that age have given up on new shows completely.

Gotta admit, I used to think the same way. But seeing how much fun Dave still has with it makes me realize there's no real age limit on stuff you enjoy. This kind of changed my mind, honestly.

It's weird how we put an expiration date on hobbies, like turning 40 means you're supposed to trade in your passions for lawn care and news radio. I see so many people my age just stop discovering new stuff altogether, it's like they decide their brain is full.
