Appreciation post: My old Maytag washer that finally gave out
Honestly, my 1996 Maytag washer finally quit on me last Tuesday. The transmission just locked up mid-cycle and I couldn't get it spinning again. I spent a whole afternoon trying to find parts but nobody carries them anymore for that model. It drove me crazy that something built so solid lasted almost 30 years but now has zero support. Has anyone else run into this where the older stuff is impossible to fix because parts just don't exist?

Tbh, it's more about planned obsolescence than just parts disappearing.

Man, I totally get what you're saying now! I used to be all about buying the newest fancy washer with all the bells and whistles, thought old stuff was just outdated junk. But after helping my buddy try to fix his 2002 Kenmore that died, I saw how those old machines were built like tanks compared to the plastic stuff they sell now. It's really frustrating when you realize the part that could fix it just doesn't exist anymore, makes you wish they still made them like that.

Right? @blair597 nailed it. Those old Maytags were absolute beasts. Sucks that they just don't support them anymore though.
