Customer told me I was wasting time checking the door seal on his 5-year-old Samsung dryer

He stood over my shoulder in his Concord basement kitchen insisting it was the heating element because the clothes came out damp, but when I showed him the quarter-sized gap in the seal with a flashlight he just walked away and I finished the job in 6 minutes flat, anyone else get people who think they know better based on a YouTube video?

Oh man, YouTube has made everyone an expert overnight. I mean, my uncle once argued with a mechanic for 20 minutes about his check engine light because a video said it was always the oxygen sensor, turned out his gas cap was loose.

@ward.jamie nailed it... people trust a screen more than their own senses now.

And how many times did he say "but on YouTube they said" while you were showing him the actual problem with your own eyes? Because I swear those videos are the worst thing to happen to service calls since the invention of the flathead screwdriver. Had a guy last week fighting me about his fridge not cooling, swore it was the compressor, turned out to be a dust-clogged condenser coil I cleaned in 90 seconds. Did he still want me to replace the compressor just because some influencer told him it was always the compressor?
