Got electrocuted by a fridge in a storage unit... twice

I was working on a old Frigidaire in a storage unit over on 14th street last month. The owner said it was dead but I got a nasty zap from the compressor terminals because the capacitor still had a charge. Took me 10 minutes to find the right discharge tool in my van because I'd shoved everything in a different drawer. Ended up getting shocked again because I got sloppy and forgot to double check with my meter. Now I always discharge caps before touching anything and I keep my tools organized by voltage rating. Anybody else have a stubborn fridge that bit them more than once?

That's life in general really, get shocked once shame on that thing, twice shame on you.

Ever actually pop a multimeter across the terminals before you touch anything, or just relying on a discharge tool? I keep a cheap neon tester in my pocket so I don't get lazy like that again.

Get a meter on those terminals every time before you touch, even if you just zapped them with a discharge tool - capacitors can be tricky and hold a partial charge. @daniel474's got the right idea about shame, but I'd argue that second shock means your setup needs a rethink, not just a reminder. How many times did it take you to actually start keeping that neon tester in your pocket like jordan903 mentioned?
