Guy at the parts counter in Toledo told me he turns down 4 out of 5 fridge calls now, and I can't get it out of my head
I was picking up a compressor fan motor at a supply house off Reynolds Road when the guy behind the counter mentioned he only takes fridge jobs on Mondays now. He said he used to run 12 calls a week but the newer sealed systems and boards turned half of them into two or three trips for the same flat rate, so he just quit taking most of them. I've been doing this 14 years and I felt that in my gut, because I ate about $600 in return visits on two French door units just this spring. The part that bugs me is that customers don't see the second and third trip as extra work, they just see a bill that didn't fix it the first time. So now I'm thinking about how I quote sealed system jobs, whether I pad the price or just walk away. Any of you changed how you price or screen fridge work lately, or am I overthinking what one guy at a counter told me?
