Read a study that said 30% of dryer fires start from lint in the vent hose
Found it in a fire safety report from the National Fire Protection Association. Makes me double check every vent connection now, even on simple service calls. How often do you guys find clogged vents that the customer had no idea about?

Actually, that stat is about all dryer fires, not just the vent hose. The lint can build up inside the dryer itself too, especially around the motor or heating element. I've pulled dryers apart where the whole bottom drum area was packed solid with fluffy lint the owner never saw. It's scary how fast that stuff can catch from just one spark.

My dryer just became a lot more terrifying.

Yeah, and it's not just the drum area. I've seen lint packed into the little space between the outer drum and the back panel, basically insulating the whole heating system. That's when things get really hot, really fast. A lot of people forget that lint can travel through the whole machine, not just the trap.
