Three years of hauling my own parts changed when I finally paid for delivery
Back when I started doing this in 2019 around Columbus, I used to drive to the supply house every single time. Got a call from a customer, ran to grab the part, came back, fixed it. That worked fine until last month when I had three jobs stacked in one afternoon. I kept telling myself the drive was only 20 minutes each way, but I did it twice in one day and lost almost 2 hours of billable time. Finally tried the delivery service from my local supplier, 15 bucks per run, and it showed up at my shop door before I finished the first unit. Now I only drive if the customer is waiting on site or if it's a part I need to inspect by hand. Has anyone else switched to delivery and noticed their day opens up way more than they expected?

The delivery service doesn't always save you the drive though. A lot of suppliers around here only run delivery on set routes, so if your shop is off their path the part might sit on the truck for a couple hours. Had a capacitor take four hours to show up once because I was the last stop. You might also catch a minimum order deal where 15 bucks turns into 40 if you only need one small part. Worth asking your counter guy how the routes run before you plan your whole day around it.
