Took me 3 years to figure out I was putting drain pumps back in wrong

I used to fight with Whirlpool washer drain pumps all the time. Had a call last month in a basement where the pump was rattling like crazy. Pulled it out and noticed the rubber mount had a little tab I never paid attention to. The old guy I was training pointed out that tab goes into a slot on the chassis to keep it from vibrating. I had been just jamming them in there and hoping for the best. Been doing it wrong since i started in this trade. Has anyone else missed something that simple for way too long?

That little tab thing happens more than people want to admit. I was using a hand mixer for years and could never get the beaters to lock in right. Turned out there was a tiny arrow that lined up with a mark on the base. Stuff like this makes you wonder how many other simple tricks we just miss because nobody slows down to show us.

That little tab gets everybody at least once. I always tell new guys to look for alignment marks before they force anything, saved me a ton of callbacks.
