Warning: A stripped screw on a dryer door cost me 3 hours and a trip to Fresno
So last Tuesday I'm out on a routine dryer call in Fresno, right? Whirlpool front loader, customer says the door latch is loose. Easy job, I've done a hundred of these. I pull out my T20 bit, start backing out the screws on the latch assembly, and the top one just spins. Stripped. I tried a rubber band trick, then a bigger bit with some valve grinding compound, nothing. Wound up drilling the head off with a 3/16 bit, which took forever because I was scared of nicking the door frame. Finally got the latch out after 3 hours of fighting it, and of course the new latch screws are a different size so I had to go digging in my truck for the right ones. Customer was cool about it but I still knocked $40 off the ticket because I felt bad about the time. Anybody got a trick for pulling stripped screws on appliance sheet metal without making a total mess?
