A retired logger told me I was climbing all wrong

I was cutting a big dead oak in a backyard near Eugene last week and this old timer watched from his porch. After I got down he walked over and said I was using too much energy on my footlock and not letting the rope do the work. He showed me a little hip thrust technique that took half the effort. Has anyone else got a tip from an old school guy that totally changed how you climb?

That hip thrust trick is gold. An old arborist showed me the same thing, saved my arms big time lol.

Yeah for real! That little tweak makes a world of difference when you're pushing something heavy or awkward. I remember first time I tried it, felt like my whole body just clicked into place. Your arms and lower back get so much less abuse once you figure out how to use your hips right. It's one of those things that seems too simple to work, but once you feel it, you never go back. Good on that old arborist for passing it along, those guys know all the old school tricks.

Used to think that was just some overhyped tip, but after throwing my back out moving a couch I finally gave it a shot... Honestly felt dumb for not trying it sooner. Now I swear by it for anything heavy or awkward.
