A utility forester told me to cut high, I ignored him for a season

Last spring a utility forester in Boise said my low flush cuts on storm damaged maples were causing rot pockets to spread. I argued with him, kept doing my usual method through summer, then peeled bark on three trees this fall and saw the rot had gone up into the trunk. Switched to his higher cut with a slight angle on the last eight jobs and the cambium is already callusing cleaner. Has anyone else seen better compartmentalization with a higher final cut on hardwoods?
