Appreciation post: the old climber who stopped mid-cutsave to school me

Last Tuesday I was rigging down a big dead oak off a garage in Portland and this retired climber named Walt watched me for 10 minutes, then asked if I'd ever heard of a friction saver redirect on a porty. He showed me a knot setup that cut my lowering line wear in half, no new gear needed. Anyone else got a random sidewalk lesson from a stranger that actually stuck?
